ELMUG eG (Electronic control and equipment technology)

The “ELMUG Industrial Cluster” brings Thuringian developers, manufacturers, vendors, service providers, and research institutions active in the electronic measurement and equipment technology sector together under one roof.  Their objective is to grow and consistently enhance one of the core Thuringian industries both at the domestic and international level.  
In light of the intensified cooperation between the cluster’s members and the increasing need to independently pursue economic activities, the cluster initiative was converted into a legal entity, this being the cooperative society Elektronische Mess- und Gerätetechnik Thüringen eG (ELMUG), on February 25th, 2009.
The purpose of the cooperative society is to promote and support its members through joint business operations.  The declared mission is to pursue joint economic activities in order to buttress and expand the individual and collective market success of the members, while also opening up new market opportunities.

Cluster für Fertigungstechnik und Metallverarbeitung in Thüringen (FerMeTh) (Production engineering and metalworking technology)

A key characteristic of the network is that it brings together enterprises along the entire value-added chain active in metals treatment & processing as well as mechanical engineering, while also involving research and academic institutions working in the field of production engineering.  FerMeTh currently has 18 members (as of August 2015).  
FerMeTh’s mission is to serve as a platform for the comprehensive collaboration among enterprises, particularly when it comes to R&D, with the goal of sustainably securing and enhancing market opportunities and competitiveness at the regional level and, increasingly, in the global environment as well.

MNT Mikro-Nanotechnologie Thüringen e.V. (Micro/nanotechnology)

MNT Mikro-Nanotechnologie Thüringen e.V., an association originally known as Mikrotechnik Thüringen MTT e.V., was established in 2001 to allow stakeholders in the micro-system technology sector to network with one another and bundle their activities.  The mission of MNT e.V. is to foster the innovation potentials of the Free State of Thuringia in the field of micro/nanotechnology and its applications.  To this end, the industry is to be actively promoted along with the cluster’s name recognition and its acceptance in order to establish micro/nanotechnology among the other sectors for which Thuringia is already recognized as a top location.  The activities of MNT e. V. help a wide range of stakeholders to bundle their competences – both along the technological value-added chain and across a wide range of industries and disciplines – in order to develop and implement sustainable growth strategies in micro-systems technology.  Micro-system technology and nanotechnology are to be established as Thuringia’s industries of the future, ones whose spillover effects will touch practically all aspects of the state economy while also reaching well beyond the confines of the Erfurt-Ilmenau-Jena technology triangle.

OptoNet e.V. (Optics)

OptoNet consolidates the interests of more than 90 stakeholders from the Thuringian optics (Opto) cluster.  It promotes networking and joint ventures among these stakeholders with the goal of advancing the region’s optical technology industry and enhancing its competitiveness, while also raising the national and international visibility of the cluster as a whole.  OptoNet understands its role as that of a service provider for its members, creating a communication and cooperation platform for their benefit, and to taking active part in marketing the region.  Particular emphasis is placed on collaboration with regional, national, and international networks for related fields of technology and partners relevant to the market.  
OptoNet e.V. is able to deal with some of these tasks together with OptoNet CoOPTICS GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary with whom it shares the work on a cooperative basis.  The latter’s tasks include initiating and supporting R&D projects, also during the application phase, while also conducting proactive trend/technology monitoring and advising on financing options.

PolymerMat e.V. Kunststoffcluster Thüringen (Polymers & nanotechnology)

PolymerMat e.V. bundles the interests of enterprises in the Thuringian plastics industry and works closely with regional networks.  It offers a platform for communication and joint ventures between plastics enterprises in the fields of innovation, product development, and the implementation of new, cutting-edge technologies.  All stages of the plastics value-added chain are covered, from treatment, processing, integration, and finishing to recycling, including mechanical engineering and toolmaking.  
Lively discussion and knowledge transfer is encouraged in the context of specialized groups and events.  In addition, the association also engages in public relations, promotes inter-company cooperation as well as scientific education, research, and training, while also addressing the challenges associated with securing skilled personnel.  Acting as an interface between the enterprises of the plastics sectors and government policymakers, the association makes a key contribution to the promotion of science, research, training, education, and innovation.  It also supports the ongoing development of Thuringia as an economic region and the growth of the Free State’s many enterprises doing business in the field of plastics and their multifaceted applications.

SmartTex-Netzwerk Thüringen

Electrode-fitted shirts that measure bodily functions, textile-based solar cells, smart lifestyle aids for people with disabilities – these are just a few of the innovative ideas being promoted by SmartTex-Netzwerk Thüringen.  In the process, the network initiates cooperation projects and organizes the transfer of knowledge between the research sector and industry, e.g. by hosting cross-sectoral workshops, seminars, and symposia.  This allows the available R&D competences to be effectively consolidated so that creative ideas involving smart textiles promptly can be turned into viable market products.

SpectroNet

Using modern forms of communication, the SpectroNet network brings together stakeholders from various industries and fields when it comes to visual quality-assurance, i.e. based on digital color-image processing and spectral imaging.  The mission of SpectroNet includes: promoting knowledge transfers and cooperation between research and industry; generating system solutions for the challenging tasks associated with image processing; exploiting market reserves.  Another objective is to help harmonize education and ongoing professional training while helping to define standards in this area.

Service/assistance robotics

This is a working group currently comprising the Technical University of Ilmenau, various enterprises active in the field, as well as the State Development Corporation of Thuringia (LEG Thüringen).  Its task is to further elaborate the conceptual underpinnings and preparatory work for the eventual setup of a robotics center in Thuringia.
